I'm rewatching the Harry Potter movies and here's a couple thoughts:

Nerdwriter is right, Prisoner of Azkaban is the best of the movies

Harry James Evans-Verres Potter is a better character than Harry Potter, canon Harry is pretty dumb and hard to watch. Also, wtf is Hermione doing in Gryffindor. What's the reason for Ravenclaw house to exist if Hermione is not in it?

One of the reasons I like HPMOR more than canon is because the characters' awesomeness potential is actually used

@Gargron I just started re-reading the books and had that exact thought during the sorting ceremony; "Why the hell is Hermione not in Ravenclaw?!" I suppose later on she does stuff that requires lots of bravery so maybe the good guys are lucky she's brave and brilliant (but slightly more brave than brilliant?)

@Gargron OH. It could also be that she is innately brave, but only book smart because of how hard she works, whereas Ravenclaw would be for the "naturally brilliant"?

@lyonsinbeta ravenclaw is clearly about being motivated by pursuit of knowledge. other interpretations make the houses useless imo. no matter how brave hermione is, she is both naturally brilliant and motivated by knowledge

@Gargron and my wife just shut me down because in book 5 Hermione says the hat couldn't decide between Ravenclaw and Gryffindor and Hermione opted for Gryffindor. So... this is why I re-read the books every so often; one forgets. 😹
