Stil unsure whether #GnuSocial or gool 'ol #XMPP is better suited for modern online social networks.

Some good points for XMPP:

.@hook I think XMPP is better.
@lanodan_mtd #Movim (and previously #Jappix) sure do sell it very well, yes. And the new MIX extension(?) sounds promising.
.@hook Yeah, and there's also Salut À Toi (which I find more interresting)
@lanodan_mtd How so? …apart from its choice of programming language?
.@hook political choices, multi-interfaces, …
@lanodan_mtd The multi-interface bit I can very much get behind. What’re the political choices you refer to?
@hook basically that technology isn’t neutral and that they want to be it free, and (highly) respectful of the user(s).
@lanodan_mtd Right, but isn’t Movim the same in this respect?

Hi @hook @lanodan_mtd I'm the main dev of « Salut à Toi » and I've just seen this thread.

Regarding political aspect you can check https://salut-a-toi.org/social_contract.html . We try to think about implications of technology on our daily life ("technology is not neutral"), we are organized in non-profit association collegial committee, and we generally try to debate about these things.

Note that we are friends with #Movim .

@Goffi @lanodan_mtd, re social contract and cloud, did you see this: https://userdatamanifesto.org/

A manifesto for digital rights

@hook @lanodan_mtd no haven't seen before, interesting (but I quite disagree with the last paragraph saying "the best technical designs include peer-to-peer or distributed systems, and unhosted applications", but it would be too long to explain why here).
