Honest Q. From the POV of getting things done (good or bad) has any form of gvt. done better than a monarchy?
@deech Depends on how you define "getting things done".
* Military dominance: USA
* Staying out of trouble: Switzerland
* Overall happiness of the people: Iceland?
etc.
@deech most monarchies have resulted in a large proportion of their 'subjects' leading miserable lives with the greatest achievement of the monarchy being that they went to war over land/religion/trade.
In terms of 'getting things done', the democractic 20th Century America is hard to beat

@deech you sure that "getting things done" is a good metric?
If that were the case than certainly Germany from '33 - '45 is hard to beat.
- lots of Autobahns
- almost no Unemployment
- almost all of Europe conquered
- several million Jews and other murdered
- almost all of Germany's infrastructure destroyed
- millions of German soldiers dead or missing

... so somehow the overall effect was not exactly what was promised.

I agree that Americas democracy gets "more done"
