I'm thinking about starting a #podcast. Because of that, I'm looking for tips, tricks and a microphone. If anyone knows something I need to know before starting the pocast, please let me know 🍍
@lilletale will you be the only voice, or do you plan to have a co-host or guests? What kind of show is it? What's the topic? This info will help me make recommendations and provide tips.
@frankramblings Right now I have two concepts on the drawing table. One is a childrens podcast with two hosts in the same room. We are going to talk about dinosaurs, princesses, childrens rights, games and education (among many things).
The other one is more activism related, with two hosts on different localtions.
@lilletale gotcha. both sound like great ideas! For tech stuff: I recommend Shure SM58's, or if you can afford them, Shure Beta 58a's which are really great mics. I record into a Tascam DR-40 digital recorder and then edit on a Mac later. I use adobe audition, but GarageBand or Audacity are great free alternatives. That's for hosts in the same room as me.
@lilletale For recording a host who isn't in the room, I talk with them on Skype and have them record themselves on their own computer. On a Mac, QuickTime is really easy to record their own audio. Literally just press a big red button. I also use eCamm Skype Call Recorder to record the entire call, but that usually won't sound as good so I just keep it as a backup in case something happens to the audio they send me. I sync up both sides of the conversation while editing and voila!

@lilletale if you're looking to do this on a budget, I wrote a guide to podcasting for free that you can check out here: http://frankramblings.com/blog/2016/8/27/how-to-podcast-for-free

I also recommend this podcast about podcasting: http://5by5.tv/podcastmethod. Really great tips for getting started.

The same host also has this website full of gear picks at different budget levels:
