I've been doing a bit of a deep dive into Mastodon/GNU Social/postActiv/et al. for almost three weeks now and almost feel ready to start noting down some of my thoughts. I'm probably still a couple of weeks away from writing a blog post, since I need to have another go at reading through the OStatus specs and another attempt to look through Mastodon's source code before I'm comfortable with outlining exactly why I find what's happening in the Mastodon/GNU Social/postActiv nexus so interesting.
If the open source communities at work here manage to evolve into (technologically) forward-looking open web systems as I think they will, then there's a decent chance they will become a pretty solid foundation for substantially improving the open web experience. If not for everybody then at least for a non-trivial number of people.
@baldur Really looking forward to reading this. 😊

@nolan Haha, thanks. Have got at least one other blog post in the works I need to finish first, but I find what's happening in the Mastodon space really fascinating.

It's messy but it's exactly the sort of mess that made the web so attractive to me when I started out.
