Before committing to #WikiTribune, hope to have a thoughtful conversation about the #FixTheNews idea. Partly about the actual roles of “gatekeepers” in such a context. Wales’s #Wikipedia has very specific a model for what is “worthy”. It may be fine for a 21st Century version of Diderot’s ideas, but it could have unintended consequences in terms of journalism.
Might still support this new endeavour, after having paused to think.
@Enkerli Their idea is "if it isn't in print, it doesn't matter". Flawed, to be generous.
@randulo Agreed. Even journalism itself has moved on from this notion.
Then there's the lack of diversity. Including in viewpoints. Still, using the WikiWay to change journalism does tickle my fancy.
@Enkerli the effort put forth (excluding certain editors who abuse power for their own reasons) is good. I've had battles with editors who refuse to accept official archives (printed!) as fact because the detail didn't fit with their knowledge.
@randulo For one thing, Wikipedia can be surprisingly appropriate in terms of managing contentious issues. It might be part of the reason they treat everything with the same brush. Their #NPoV is far from “neutral”, but it's quite mainstream.
