Working on a browser #extension that will real-time #translate statuses into your native #language. Got it working! Who'd want something like this? Would you pay a couple dollars once for it? https://mastodon.social/media/GQ-YsDgqAG930a7hOlk

@tedkrapf if I can use it on all my browsers, it's cheap. If I have to pay 2 dollars for each browser, I probably wouldn't pay.

I would also consider the quality of translations and if it will be maintained and updated if bugs are found, or it will just remain as published.

Anyway, I find it a very good idea.

@JavierTorres Thanks! All great points. The translation would use an AI like the Google Translate API. Would probably initially be for Chrome. What other browsers would you suggest I look at? (Wonder if there is browser stats available for Mastodon?) I'd likely do pay once, free upgrades. Basically just a cost to cover the actual translation api costs. Stupid me only knows one language. I feel like i'm missing out on so much from all these interesting people!

@tedkrapf My problem is that I don't use a single PC, but 3-5 depending the day, so any kind of "multilicense" would be fine. If that's not the case, I guess I still pay for one computer, but not for the rest.

I use Firefox as browser. If you don't find statistics about mastodon, using general statistics (for example, twitter) could work as an approximation.

Being Spanish I have the advantage of "mostly" understanding all the south-american sector. My struggles come with the asian section :P

@JavierTorres Ah! Good point, yes, across different machines. Definitely important to consider. Great call on using Twitter as a reference point. Noted on FireFox. Similar here: except my Spanish is not great. I'm also totally lost on Asian languages. Wish I was multilingual. :) Thank you for all your input!! Much appreciated!
