I think Joss Whedon gets more praise than he deserves.

I mean sure Buffy was good. Wouldn't put it in the realm of classics.

Firefly was... not really original. The mashup was new but it was pretty much not that interesting for me. Star Trek with Space Cowboys and bounty hunters.

What little I've seen of his other works I have basically been "😐"

I think he's popular because he's average movie director quality on TV and that's rare.

@Elizafox TOTALLY agree.
Plus, he was mean to Johan Ray one time.
@Elizafox I think it really depends on what you are looking for. I tend to like star trek because of the philosophical force of the show, the interesting dialogs and the use of the medium to explore arguments in a multi-faceted way. I tend to like firefly because it's fun, and there is something to be said about that. Still, I think Cowboy BeBop blows them both out of the water. :3 :3

@Elizafox
#Firefly isn't supposed to be original. It's a western. It's in space. They do some heists and stuff.

Quality makes Firefly great. It's well-written. The characters are well-developed. The actors are amazing (as is the ensemble together), and have almost all gone on to success. There are strong women. There is enough humor, but not too much.

I actually like #Dollhouse more than #Buffy. And Cabin in the Woods was better written than Avengers... but spectacle.

@Elizafox
Also, #Whedon didn't write or direct most episodes (or get credit for such) on #Firefly. Though he did write/direct IMO the best episodes, Serenity (the first episode) and Objects in Space (the last and my favorite). The gang of writers that he works with is just phenomenal. Same for the actors. And directors actually.

OK, I love the whole Whedonverse. Sue me.
