to my beloved instance, soc.ialis.me, it seems we have a fair amount of both french and english in our local timeline. there's now a solution to ensure that every toot has both, thanks to @cs who created a little translation bot. simply mention it along with a two letter ISO language code and it will reply with the translation:

@translator fr

@wxl @translator @cs for which languages does this work?
@wxl @translator es @cs @EmilJacobs let's test it. What a great idea!
@y6nH [es] @wxl @cs @EmilJacobs vamos a probarlo. ¡Qué gran idea!
@EmilJacobs @cs @translator ja @wxl Spanish works! How about Japanese?
@y6nH [ja] @EmilJacobs @cs @wxl スペイン語の作品!日本語はどうですか。
@y6nH @translator en Dit is een test om te kijken hoe het gaat van Nederlands naar Engels
@EmilJacobs [en] @y6nH @ mastodon. social this is a test to see how it goes from Dutch to English

@cs @translator @EmilJacobs all of these https://christopher.su/projects/translator/#languages-table

It's clearly a small subset of possible languages, through it's interesting how it doesn't even have a complete ISO 639-1 and yet includes Klingon, Hmong and Maya!

Oh and the set of languages is what's available from the translation API that's used (Bing) https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/translator/languages.aspx
