What it really says is "I am terrified of these people and what they want to achieve because it goes against everything I believe in."

By mocking it they hope to make it not normal and win people to their side. You know, the side of denying people rights, which they can't actually /say/ that (it's basically career and social suicide now) but they can sure as Hell cloak it with a frog meme.
