John WardOne thing I do enjoy about Mastodon is the expanded character limit. 500 characters seems to be the perfect amount to express a thought while preventing a full essay about a topic. It's a very nice middle ground.
Leauxra@jlward I agree. So far I am really liking the look and feel of this place. It just took a while to wrap my head around it, and I'm probably "doing it wrong". 😁
bright moon@leauxra @jlward I don't know if you can 'do it wrong' once you stick to the guidelines for your instance and are generally respectful, label things that are not safe for work and use content warnings.
As I'm new, I feel that by remembering there were people here before me and not shouting at everyone what should be done or how it should be done, would go a long way to making it nicer for those who were here from the beginning.

@bright_moon @leauxra You raise a valid point and one that's easy to forget. I know that when I join a place I tend to be focused on trying to figure it out. I hope this hasn't led to the perception that I was telling everyone they were wrong about something.
@jlward @leauxra god no, not at all what i meant. I'm the same. Everyone is. All trying to figure this out together. People are helpful as well though and will always answer questions, even the same ones we all ask over and over.

@jlward @leauxra I wouldn't know what they were anyway and would definitely not be my place to go around telling everyone. I only see some of them. As you can tell since I butted in. 😂
People are really nice though, at least everyone I've come across. It's nice exploring and finding people though it takes a while to settle in.

@leauxra @jlward I'm glad cos thats how I found it and I really like it. Joined mastodon.social originally but joined up here (a.weirder.earth) afterwards and am settling in nicely.
The locals are friendly and that makes the biggest difference to other sites. Most aren't out looking for arguments and the mods/admins seem to be on the ball. in my experience anyway.

@bright_moon @leauxra Really? I was wondering if it was possible to migrate to a different instance or just create multiple profiles. How did the process work for you?
@jlward @leauxra never did the migrate thing (honestly, I won't probably understand it until I try it). I literally signed up for social first, spotted this one and joined up. Used same name as it wasn't taken and same avatar and info. but just have two separate accounts on different instances.
I stay here mostly, I'm more comfortable here but venture into social to see what's happening occasionally. As us weirdos here follow more people we see more in federated TL.

@leauxra others have migrated follow lists across to new profiles but I never did that so don't understand it. but it is/may be possible.
