@mattskala Actually that's just a random collection, I wasn't going for any sort of scale or order :)
@wogan okay, well, it looks reasonably close to the usual auth/lib, left/right. But I think non-Japanese languages became a minority more than 24 hours ago. People art still passing around that nationality chart with French at the top, but it's WAY out of date. And on growth rate, which will obliterate the current population rankings if the network grows to a million users or more, everything except Japanese will be a *very small* minority soon if it isn't already.

@mattskala Oh, definitely, but the nature of the fediverse is such that the population concerns don't really matter.
The fact that more than 70% of everyone on an OStatus-compatible instance today doesn't speak English (a likely statistic), doesn't mean that it's any less useful for English speakers.
This network is such that you can eventually choose precisely who you want to network with, and exclude everyone else.
@wogan Many people can live happily in the margins, and long-term GNU Social users may tend to be such people. But many others cannot - such as the upper left of your diagram - and it will go worse for such people the longer it takes them to find out they're in the margins.
@mattskala That's why I didn't subdivide that into the smaller blocks of who's taken gender studies and who has not
I do actually want to come up with a real ideological map at some point, maybe with some clever content analysis. Someday.
