I really want subscribable instances? Like I want to be able to read all the bot tweets from botsin.space in a single column? I think that would be nice. Then you could also quarantine all the journos on their own servers too lmao
@sarahjeong Do you see instances popping up that map to distinct communities? Witches.town seems a little like that. I'm not sure of any others. I'm only on this one because no others existed initially, and I’m wondering what it would mean to pick up and move to another.
@migurski yes, I've joined a couple different ones but it's not user friendly to use Mastodon like this because the smartphone app doesn't let me toggle between accounts
@sarahjeong Yup; I am also on Mastodon.cloud but it’s an abandoned account because it really only makes sense to have exactly one. I have dozens of addresses forwarding to my email inbox though; would be nice to have that kind of Tootdeck behavior.
@catte I think having a switch that some instances can turn on would be fine! Like obviously awoo.space and witches.town wouldn't want to turn it on but why not botsin.space etc
@sarahjeong someone's got to figure out the UI and make sure it doesn't make too many extra requests etc idk

@catte @sarahjeong I guess the tricky bit of having some sort of seamless toggle is that remote instances don't automatically get all the local posts. Only those by people that are followed by someone on the remote.

But it would be nice if this was a type of timeline, like there is now "home", "public/local", and "public". Maybe "public/botsin.space"? And then the data on that timeline would be fetched from a public broadcast from that instance directly.

@sarahjeong It's the "this looks like Tweetdeck, but it's not" problem.

Anyway, I wonder what it could cost to obtain fake.news from the
registrar.

@sarahjeong i kinda think the next evolution will be everyone with their own personal instances and some sort of ostatus-router middleware to help federate posts around various subscription channels.

oh crap we just invented Twitter-over-USENET. #ToU
