Christina Hendricks@thebestsophist There are many who care intrinsically, but some who wouldn't try hard unless it somehow hurt them the way those who are not included are hurt. But even for the former, it goes to the back burner sometimes, in the struggle just to manage one's own survival in too-much-work. At least, that's what I see in academia.
@clhendricksbc I’ve been thinking about this a lot recently. This is how kyriarchy divides and conquers (I’m increasingly less hesitant to attribute sentience to kyriarchy—but that argument is for another time). everyone with the power to do something is simultaneously is tied to the system for their own well-being and contributing to its power.
@thebestsophist Yes, that seems to be part of the problem. Most people I know in academia are so busy with other things they have to do that social justice work gets pushed to the sides of their desks. Though at least, many of us try to incorporate it into our other work as much as we can, like in our courses and research. But in terms of other political action, it sometimes doesn't get the attention it deserves.
