dthorman@roroyourboat @creatrixtiara that is true, but one of the great things about FOSS is that anyone can be a developer and help improve the system. You don't have to be in some fancy company. There are also lots of non-code related ways that people can contribute. I also wanna say that I appreciate that you are drawing attention to these issues. They are really important. Making FOSS accessible is critical to its survival.
@dthorman @roroyourboat I guess one of my main consternations is this expectation that people be interested in *developing* Mastodon (code or not) if they have any concerns or opinions about how they want to engage with Mastodon. Not everyone wants to and that should be OK, that shouldn't invalidate their ideas.
@roroyourboat @creatrixtiara I think that it doesn't invalidate their ideas. The people who *are* working on stuff just care about it a lot and so I think it just hurts them when people don't want to help. Improving things is a community effort. IMO expressing opinions and concerns is better than doing nothing, but idk how much that is worth.
@dthorman @roroyourboat us talking about the barriers we (larger-scale we) face in trying to help or engage all IS us trying to help. It's immense emotional and intellectual labour. This cannot be separated from the rest of open source.
