hi all! i have a thing to share with you! my new instance is ready and it is a little different...

toots on this instance are ephemeral; they disappear after a while (between 5 minutes and an hour) depending on the current phase of the moon.

@bea what is the main thinking behind having ephemeral toots? (also, idk how the federation system works but do they remain cached in instances that federate with yours?)

1) it's for fun mostly, or for art or whatever? i like the idea. we don't really need them to stick around forever do we? or if we do well then there's every other instance ever

2) they should not remain cached in other instances because they are processed just the same as if the user deletes the toot. a message is sent out to other instances telling them that the toot was deleted and that they should follow suit, which afaik they do.

the case of not keeping toots around is interesting, sometimes I do enjoy reading what I thought 1 week ago and comparing to now, some other times I'd totally like for a drunk toot to disappear from everyone's memory
