I have to wonder how many will stay in Mastodon, once the novelty wears off.

I'll definitely be sticking around, though. I find myself checking in here much more often than on Twitter now.:relaxed:

@LittleOwl I send you for pictures :P
@LittleOwl well I meant food...
@LittleOwl I think Mastodon is doing something right, something better than birdsite ever has. I've been a big user at #instagram. There's a strong poetry community on that social network, but on birdsite when posting #poetry I didn't feel the culture and community there.
@abentleywrites There's definitely a strong sense of community here, even after such a short amount of time. Mastodon is definitely doing something right.:relaxed:
@LittleOwl My new connections here have even made me reconsider how I go forward using Twitter. http://runelab.org/wordpress/?p=502
@Algot @LittleOwl I have no desire to go back to Twitter.
@spridlewv @LittleOwl I have too many valuable connections through Twitter to abandon it.
@Algot @spridlewv Same here, sadly. There are a few other things I use it for, like local news, author/book updates and the like. I'm wondering if Mastodon will be a wake-up call for Twitter.
@LittleOwl @Algot I guess I see what you guys mean. There are some people who I only know through Twitter. Of course it was the same with FB and I ditched it with no regrets.
@spridlewv @LittleOwl Michael, I actually have mostly separate lists of contacts at each place. I don't really fell that I need to centralize, even though checking all the services takes extra time.
@Algot I'm the same. On Twitter, I used watch my own timeline and don't really try to interact with people, mostly because it can be intimidating for me. I don't get that feeling here at all, though, so it's easier to reach out.:slight_smile:
@LittleOwl Right now, Mastodon seems more "personal" in a friendly way.
@LittleOwl Yeah, it's becoming a habit by now :D
@LittleOwl I'm still struggling to find the right people to follow, but I love the energy here. Whenever I check Twitter I end up regretting it.
@frankramblings @LittleOwl don't check birdsite! You know you'll regret it every time. Lol
@frankramblings Same here. There are a few people I only talk with via Twitter, otherwise I only use it for local news and other bits and pieces. The energy and the people here make this place so much better.:slight_smile:
@LittleOwl I wish my favorite people over there would migrate here. Then I'd have pretty much no reason to be checking over there anymore.
@frankramblings Oh, definitely. Here's hoping it happens!
@LittleOwl also, I think allowing for longer status messages helps here on Mastodon vs birdsite. Because now I can type out more and have more effective communications with other users.
@LittleOwl I was mostly off twitter over the past six months. Now I definitely am. :)
@laerm I don't blame you. I would if I could, but I've got some friends and family who don't use this yet.:slight_smile:
@LittleOwl Most of my friends on twitter have been naturally fading from it over the past few months too. I think twitter has peaked.

@laerm I think you might be right. Unless Twitter does something soon, it may find itself left behind.

Hopefully I can persuade some of my friends and family to come over here... :slight_smile:

@LittleOwl Yeah, definitely. Twitter has a mindset that might be outmoded in the current day.
@LittleOwl I'll probably stay, tired of twitter, their updates and ads. And already can see good way to socialize with new people instead of being shut-in with all your followers
@LittleOwl I have only opened #Twitter when somebody specifically message me.
@mreichardt I might have to start doing that, too.

@LittleOwl I never did jump on the Twitter bandwagon, though I've always enjoyed the idea from afar and just stayed on FB.

But to see the community that's come up since I started here, it's been very refreshing. I certainly plan on hanging around!

@Supernova It's definitely the people here who make it such a nice place to hang out. I've never had that sense of community at Twitter and, although I tried FB I couldn't get on with it.

Everyone I've encountered here so far has been really friendly.:relaxed:

@LittleOwl Couldn't agree more! This is a real great space to be in! Dare I say strangers are the coolest people now? :laughing:

Plus, for me, this lets me be more of myself than I could be on, say, Facebook, which is full of family and friends from the school days and the expectations that come with that.

@Supernova Definitely - strangers really are the coolest people, because all of the like minds are here. It's much easier to get along now.:relaxed:

I'm the same - most of my family and friends are on Twitter, so I have to be more circumspect about what I say over there. I can really be myself here, and that freedom is nice to have.:hugging:
