Got a small question for #mastodonusers . Can the same name be created over a handful of instances?
@antheor need to secure on all the instances. LOL
@rom Security holes everywhere :expressionless:
@antheor @rom Why is this a security hole?

@jjatria @rom It's not, it's simply because I work as an IT. And you know, patching everything here and their.

But the point could be over all those instances, you know if something crash or is hacked or anything, it's hundreds and later thousands of instances that need to be updated

@antheor @rom I see your point.

Then again, a federated and libre architecture is arguably safer as a whole than a monolithic and proprietary one: even if individual nodes are vulnerable, the network as a whole isn't. And you have more eyes looking for vulnerabilities.

It will be interesting to see what sort of approaches motivated attackers come up with in a network like this. It's been around for a long time, but until now it's been rather niche.

@jjatria @antheor well, that is what you get for with FOSS - you just need to make sure that you are always up to date with the security patches.
