picking a hostname is the hardest problem in computer science
(yes I've heard your hardest problem in computer science jokes already)
@ilianaw yeah but that one is actually hard
@ilianaw the three hardest problems in computer science are picking names and off-by-one errors
@ilianaw tr -d -c '[lower]' < /dev/urandom | head -c4 > /etc/hostname
@ilianaw mine are all Elder Scrolls daedra, quite easy for me :)
@ilianaw I'm still looking for something to do with vandali.se
@Spider that is a solid domain hack

@ilianaw Yeah. But I don't think it'd be a good name for a mastodon community.

Might attract a crowd I don't want to moderate.

@ilianaw I just found something cool on here and randomly pick from it when I need a new hostname https://namingschemes.com/

The Planets/Stars one is nice, so I wrote a little thing that just randomly picks one and lets me mark it as used so it doesn't show it again

@ilianaw I took a subdomain I had, because I was already planning to install a few apps on some topics, and then Mastodon popped-up.
@ilianaw there are only two hard problems in computer science: naming conventions, cache coherency, and off-by-one errors
