Are people doing interest-specific Mastodon instances? I was thinking it'd be interesting to have an interest-focused local timeline but still have access to the rest of Mastodon via federation? The downside would be having to pick one main interest, I guess :)
@sendnine yeah struggling w that tradeoff myself... can have access via federated, but will need to narrow my own speech if i join interest-specific instance. and having multiple accounts just feels like a pain

@smallbravecarnivore @sendnine
Im across a couple of instances to test and have joined an interest specific.

Having a client that allowed you to manage more than once instance would be helpful like you can on Google Plus or on The Facebag

@ChrisWilson @sendnine that could be a way. too lazy to check out interest specific instances for the moment :grin:
@smallbravecarnivore @sendnine I got onto this thing because of an interest specific group. They just set up their own server. Took around half a day.
@ChrisWilson @sendnine it would also be nice to be able to 'curate' your own timeline w a few instances. i guess i'm trying to see too much reddit in this.
@smallbravecarnivore @sendnine I'm sure you could create an app to do that by boosting / retooting your other instances toots. I'm not too sure. I knew nothing of this until around 5 ot 6 hours ago
@ChrisWilson oh i meant as in having a timeline where not the entire federated universe but just a few instances that you select appear. for example im on mastodon.social, and i like the more general topic vibe of it, but if i could add a few specific interest instances and have a curated timeline, that would be nice. maybe it can already be done and i just haven't figured out how..
@smallbravecarnivore a bit like Google Plus's Circles. Its early days. who knows
@sendnine I've seen some Minecraft / technology specific ones so far. The instance I chose is multi-lingual to say the least. Which is less interesting than an interest that doesn't particularly interest me
