Mastodon's best features for me so far:

1/ Libre software: Will be continuously improved by community, no anti-features built-in.

2/ decentralized: data not in the US. Hard to censor. Different instances with different rules and communities

3/ 500chars per message is good for punchy headlines and expressing thoughts

4/ cool interface

5/ capybaras
