Tomorrow I start a new part-time job. Helping an LA office migrate from Windows to Linux for all of their needs. 90% of their work is browser based so it looks like it's going to be a smoother process. In other news, I am teaming up with some local computer heads and building linux machines to donate to Puerto Rico (2nd wave donations) and Albert Einstein College of Medicine BOLD program. #linux #libreoffice #bronx #alwaysforward
@RafiLinux You rock. Wish I was half as effective as you at converting people to Linux.
@DistroJunkie :) I think it's the games that that help me spread the word so easily.
@RafiLinux pls, tell us more.
@DistroJunkie Hmm. Well, I got with Linux because the games I played ran on it (UT99) and I was tired of M$. That is the gist of my talks with users as they ask me about Linux. From there they ask about office work, business and multimedia needs and I have all of those issues covered and show them from my devices how I do. Most ppl then try it out and I lend them support but move them towards self-sufficiency. I encourage exploration of Linux for the most part. Those that don't, no harm/foul.
@DistroJunkie I hit a lot of LUGs and LAN events and when ppl see you using Linux for your every day computing needs it much easier to sell them on using it versus hearing about it or watching an online video. I think putting a name with a face with an OS helps ppl dive in. I am more than happy to hand out my email to ppl I meet to help them learn about Linux. The Linux jobs I landed came from going to LANs, Meetups and volunteering at tech spots.
