So how do we stop Mastodon from becoming Ello or Peach?

@kat Don't get me wrong, I have great appreciation for free and open. But, I still think that automatically make one "nothing like" the not-free not-open alternatives.

Mastodon and Ello are both social networks where people post content to followers, much like Gimp and Photoshop are both software used to manipulate images.

@zack perhaps I didn't understand properly. what do you suggest the problems with Ello, etc.. were? Mastodon is an OStatus client and server. There are other OStatus Client/Servers, and can be other mastodon instances. How is this like the problem with walled garden software service, that needs to monetize its users to become sustainable ?
