I haven't talked about #games much here, but they're one of my big things. I'm particularly interested in games that subvert the usual narratives of imperialism, military fetishism and the Great Man version of history.

My first proper game, a piece of #interactivefiction called 'Eight characters, a number, and a happy ending' doesn't do all that, but it's a stepping stone.

@KGOrphanides man, I *love* IF. Even implemented a compiler targeting the z-machine once.
@Monkeymind 1337. I'm eyeing up INFORM for my next project, particularly as I've been asked to write a thing about creating text adventures using an R.Pi.
@KGOrphanides Inform, yeah, I was young and pissed off at inform's limitations (inform 5), so I implemented a variant of Oberon with IF extensions on the Z-machine. Never got around to writing a library or any actual games, though.
@KGOrphanides Also, inform was first implemented on an acorn archimedes, so a raspi is kind of fitting (descendent of the acorn risc machine)
@Monkeymind Ah, I remember the Archimedes. You may be aware that
there's a Pi compatible version of RISC OS now: https://www.riscosopen.org/content/downloads/raspberry-pi
@KGOrphanides Yes! Played with it. I was an Atari ST kid though. M68k assembly language an C... this bragging is actually kind of enjoyable πŸ€“

@Monkeymind Yep, definitely 1337. :D

I started on a SpectraVideo MSX and then moved to IBM PC (my mum worked in computing), but I've never been what you'd call a skilled programmer.

I can cludge code together for most things I need, but I sunk most of my XP into writing. :simple_smile:

@KGOrphanides Nice! I'll check out that game you linked. Any of your writing online somewhere?

@Monkeymind Indeed! Thank you for asking :smile:

Fiction (only slightly out of date) : http://www.wyrdsmith.co.uk/fiction

The main bit of my journalistic work atm is Wired's morning newsletter (not exactly Pulitzer material, but it pays the bills): http://www.wired.co.uk/topic/wired-awake

I crop up elsewhere doing everything from hardware reviews to writing on online security and bees. Not yet at the same time, sadly.

@KGOrphanides Lovecraft, eh?

@Monkeymind *waves tentacles cheerfully*

Hi, I insert brown, queer and female people into a mythos that exists because this one dude's terrified xenophobia expressed itself in extremely creative ways. :smiley:

@KGOrphanides Howard Phillipp must be stirring in his ... tomb ... what with people perverting his Ε“vre like this! πŸ²πŸ¦‡

Sounds intriguing!
