Hey...I'm a transgender person who is very tempted to go forth, find a doctor and hopefully get set up for HRT, but, well, I'm nervous. I don't know what it's like. I am just curious if there's anyone who has or taking HRT to let me know what it was like for them, getting the doctor, getting the prescription, and then what the actual treatment is like over time.

It's something I've been really curious about, and with what may happen here soon, it may be better to get started sooner than later.

@RikkiShinzui Do it. Just look around for a doctor that is good, if you have trans friends around you ask them :P
@RikkiShinzui Where do you live? Depending on where you live there's different ways to get treatment. In the USA, there's the old way of getting a therapist, working with them to get a treatment plan set up with an endocrinologist and therapy, or there's informed consent. Planned Parenthood often does the informed consent thing where they do the blood testing and prescribe hormones. Transition stuff is very customized to the person and it's usually a good idea to have a doc monitoring you.
@RikkiShinzui As far as what HRT is like, it varies between people. I experienced a shift in the way I experienced emotions within the first month, then breast aches later on, and over the course of it, I kinda lost my coping mechanisms for autism and have had to work to rebuild them. I've also made new wonderful friends, found my amazing lovers, and generally discovered how life can actually feel like it's worth living. I've been on HRT for 2.5 years now.
@ErinRedFen Oh wow, that's incredible...! So it varies for each person, though that makes sense. What's the cost of it like if you can tell me that?
@RikkiShinzui Heh, it depends on your insurance and who you see. I pay 8 dollars for all my meds each month
but i pay 70USD/week for therapy (others could do less) and then see an endo twice a year
