in 1987 when doing work experience at British Telecom was told by engineer there original plan was for UK, DE, NL and FR to deploy ISDN in their countries and link up the various Viewdata systems.

We had Prestel: it was expensive and aimed more at big business than normal folk).

Thatcho pulled out UK funding in 1980s, causing PTT NL to do same leaving FR and DE with their separate systems. Interesting to see today which 2 non English languages are common here..

It was too soon, Mastodon didn't exist yet. Now we can use minitel.
