the complaining is why I've learned to be very cautious about who gets to follow me

they can't feel disappointment if I silently ignore their follow request

that's not what I look at -- plenty of people are widely followed and shitty, and get a free pass for it from good people because they're "funny" or "actually good" or "seem reachable" or whatever

in my crusty old age, I simply want no exposure to shitbags or their nearshitbag friends, so when good people give a pass to shitbags or nearshitbags, I just block the shitbags and nearshitbags preemptively

it's only produced one argument ever, and it was with a shitbag
