@chris_martin I've only joined one server so far. Are they aggregated in any way so I don't have to sign onto a bunch separately? Something like a single sign-on? Also, what do I do with all of these extra characters? I still have more than a tweet left!

@gfixler Your accounts are not aggregated in that way, but the content crosses all the servers. Basically you should only have one account. I started on mastodon.social, then made a bunch on different servers just screwing around, now I'm starting to settle on icosahedron.website (avoiding masotodon.social because there's too many people on it, causing performance problems)

@gfixler Think of it like email. You can have a Gmail and a Hotmail and a whatever address and anyone can send to any of them but you want one address that you can give to people.

@gfixler Personally, I think this sucks, for the same reason that it sucks for email (if your service provider shuts down, you lose that identity)

@chris_martin So the info isn't distributed to all? You lose your toots?

@gfixler Well they'll still be there, I think, on the servers of anyone who followed you. Not sure how long-term retention is supposed to work, though, now that I think of it.

@gfixler Yeah I don't know the answer to that at all, actually, I'm just guessing how it works.
