I've made a post about Mastodon on HN. Cross your fingers for me
@Gargron just got on board after reading the HN post :)
@luciano Welcome!
@Gargron thanks! I'm a bit puzzled, what is my handle? [email protected] ?
@luciano the domain part can always be omitted if the user is on the same instance as you
@Gargron the HN article got my attention - looks great, finding my way around but wondering best way to discover other users
@Dave Thanks! You can look at who I am following/who is following me or look at the public feeds on quitter.se/quitter.no/etc :)
@gargron 11th place, 290 vote, near 200 comments. Nice!

@gargron Oops, just over 100 comments. But it will soon be near 200, I'm sure. :-)
@clacke Mind you that's 11th place 14 hours later! It was 2nd yesterday :D
@[email protected] Can you give a quick run down of what it can and can't do right now?
@aqeel Alright, color me impressed that while you seem to have mistyped the domain of my instance I still somehow got the mention. The full list of features and to-dos will take a lot of space...
@aqeel Follow/unfollow/block/unblock, replies, mentions, reblogs, favourites, deleting/unreblogging/unfavouriting, attach images or WebMs to your posts, if a status on your home feed replies to a status that is unknown to your instance, it will try to resolve the full thread so you can see the full conversation, also the UI uses websockets so you get live updates to your timelines.
@aqeel It doesn't try to federate anything there isn't a written standard for (that's a feature). Now, what isn't there? I can think of a million things so I'm not sure I should really answer that
@Gargron What about system requirements (specially cpu/ram)? Similar to GNU Social?
@aqeel I haven't run GS myself but the upfront requirement is probably higher. Should run fine on a $5/mo droplet on DO, though today I had to upgrade to $20/mo because I got 700+ users out of nowhere
@gargron Damn, that's quite a haul!
@Gargron *argh* That's the second time I have misspelled mastodon!

As for features, I meant for compatibility with GNU Social, what works and what doesn't. Though a full list on your site/github page might be a good idea.
@aqeel GS has a bug where it ignores reblogs generated from our feeds and sometimes doesn't load our users' avatars. I have issues open for those on the GS gitlab
