The most important thing for anyone who wants this network to succeed to do is to make it easy for non-technical users to set up their own instances.
@sonya I have to disagree with you there...I think we need good instances for non-technical users to join. They generally don't want to become admins.
@sonya set up and maintain. oof.
@crwbot yeah, @HedgeMage made that point too... it may not be as feasible as I'm hoping :(
@sonya On what hardware?
@chris_martin AWS, Digital Ocean, whatever
@sonya I've been thinking for a while how to get nontechnical people to own cloud computing power, never came up with anything. How you can really be in control of an EC2 instance without understanding it...
@sonya I want to set up my own instance on a server I control when I have time (maybe this weekend), see exactly how hard it is and what the pitfalls are
@sonya also I don't fully understand the federating model yet and what controls over the flow of messages it gives to which parties.
@motxrobitis_brunva heya! I've moved to @sonya but if you want to chat there I'm happy to point you in the direction of helpful resources :)
