Cannot say I am happy with what I see on WordPress.com, Flickr and several other places I used to post images, art and other bits and pieces. They have evolved into "social networks" I want blogs back!
I know this is not going to happen. I should probably publish hand-made html pages from now on.
Comments and other meaningful interactions are now replaced with "likes" and "favs". So, who wants comments?
@lohang You're right, we live in thoughtless decadent times. Facebook @ Co w/ "likes" and "favs" is just an indicator.
@lohang Use a static site generator. There are many out there.
@escapist I've tried a coupe of them before: Jekyll and Octopress. Pelican is somewhat similar. But they all need some sort of an additional layer of things. Ruby or Python or some other programming language. When I move to a new computer I was unable to migrate the setup I previously used to generate the site. Too Geeky for my level of computing. I can manage handmade HTML, or something created with #orgmode
@lohang This is exactly the direction I am going in. I want the "web" aspect to make a comeback. https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2015/dec/29/irans-blogfather-facebook-instagram-and-twitter-are-killing-the-web
Iran's blogfather: Facebook, Instagram and Twitter are killing the web

Hossein Derakhshan was imprisoned by the regime for his blogging. On his release, he found the internet stripped of its power to change the world and instead serving up a stream of pointless social trivia
