Did a 12km walk from #Brockhole to #Ambleside over #WansfellPike today in #Cumbria. Ideal for walking to start, and then the clouds rolled in over the peak at #Wansfell which meant a bit of wandering around trying to find the right path down. Luckily, I’m used to walking in rain, fog and limited visibility with a map and compass to guide me. Completed the circuit via a boat on #LakeWindermere. A nice way to spend five hours. Typically, the sun came out after the journey!

@mkwadee osmand (Open Street Map for Android), offline maps installed, waterproof case.
Super handy, loads a of detail I(including public a footpaths etc), the ability to create a GPX trace and do routing amongst many other features.
I never go hiking without it now (still need a nap and compass though, their batteries last longer :grinning:)
@twistedLucidity I'm still an analogue walker.
@mkwadee phones flap around less in the wind.
I'm often in a group and I share the GPX I've created in QMapShack before the walk.
1. It's means more than one person has the route
2. I can easily tag points of interest (read: pubs)
3. If the worst happens, I can give long/lat to rescue
4. It stops all the arguements on which way is correct!
Still need to be able to read a map and know where one's going, lest one suffers unexpected cliff syndrome.
@twistedLucidity I may adopt this strategy one day...
