yeah this place isn't for me. ping me when there's a gnu social platform that respects free speech. /bye 👋
@jb55 Yeah, get out. If you love 'free speech' so much go back to twitter where you can harass and hate people from marginalized groups as much as you like. Bye!! ♥
@jb55 aw come on bud! if it becomes a problem we can spin up our own instance. for now this place seems way more free than twitter
I was actually wondering how hard that is... @five @jb55
@sixbitproxywax I'm going to want to find out fairly soon, for reasons @jb55 is thinking about. This place is great, but it also clearly has a heavy SJ-friendly demographic. I don't mind THEM, but THEY tend to mind people skeptical of SJ stuff, which I am
@jb55 so like as a defensive measure, if people in my "twitter tribe" had our own instance, it wouldn't matter, and we could still interact fine with the (current) main instance too @sixbitproxywax
@five @sixbitproxywax it will be interesting when SJ-heavy domains start blacklisting non-SJ domains. The tribal drama that results will be fun. exciting times.
@jb55 SHOULD resemble pure anarchy. In the "self-organization" sense, like the internet is/was @sixbitproxywax
@sixbitproxywax @jb55 the question will be whether we can avoid Linux fragmentation syndrome, bc social networks depend on network effects
@five kind of makes me want to dive into some network theory math to see how different scenarios play out @sixbitproxywax

@jb55 @five Something else to consider is whether or not the anti free speech portions of the network (at least the really extreme portions) are actually significant enough to matter.

If they retreat to their own island and block the rest of the world, would it matter?

@sixbitproxywax exactly! and similarly, let's say the free speech people are vastly in the minority. I don't think we are but, if we are, I think we just have to live with it, and that's okay too (though sad) @jb55

@five @jb55 Right. Without profit motives involved there's no hammer to beat everyone else with no matter your political views, I think.

Perhaps the problem would be that they wouldn't stay on their island, though I suspect that wouldn't be too hard to deal with.

@five yeah I like the tech, just not a fan of this instance. I might hold off to see what other instances pop up before I dedicate much time into this one.
@jb55 well I hope you'll check in at least a couple times a week for now, I was glad you showed up
