anyway how you all doing? i've nearly finished scratchbuilding a 3d printer based on the prusa i3 mk2. the frame is made of 3030 extrusion and is sturdy as fuck. just need the motors and stuff now. also pictured: a catbutt https://mastodon.social/media/FyFI0RV_3ZI3aGrusow
@cube how much do you pay for the parts? I got an i3 clone kit from China that I assembled, pretty have with it.
@lambadalambda most of it is the official prusa i3 to i3 mk2 upgrade kit which is 5 steppers, induction probe, fancy heatbed and an e3d hotend (plus other bits) for... £170? i think, it's been backordered a while. and £90 for a mini-rambo
@cube not bad! You can really get a nice printer for not too much money these days.
@lambadalambda frame extrusions were £60 shipped from aliexpress cut drilled and tapped to spec, aaaand probably another £60 on the misc bit and bobs category so yeah all in all, it works out at a better printer than the i3 mk2 for a bit less than a stock i3 mk2 kit, even that's expensive for nowadays though there's straight up good enough printers for the buying at like $300 or even less
@cube i paid 140€ for the kit, works pretty well. Not bad for a hobbyist who's willing to do some calibration / modification.
@lambadalambda yeah, not bad at all! and lbr if you're not prepared to monkey with it this isn't the hobby for you yet
