@aral Remember when Renata & we were talking about having a few DiEM laptops for events organised by us? I probably could get one. What would be the minimum requirement for it? And do you have any ideas yet how these laptops could be used by more than one regional group?
@Lea Ideally, it would be great to have some Macs – as we can run every operating system on them and thus have the greatest flexibility (e.g., accommodate people who use Keynote on Mac – like me :) – as well as Windows/Linux. If they were Macs, ideally MacBook Pros but we could do with MacBooks + adapters. If Macs are not possible than I guess anything, really.
@Lea @aral If there is network access, a Chromebook would be the cheapest option. about USD 300
@davidstodolsky @Lea That’s a *Google* Chromebook. The company that is the largest people farmer in the world. Going forward, please let’s make sure that the decisions we make do not conflict completely with the philosophy and guiding principles of our own technology pillar. We should not be supporting Google in any way unless there is no other option. In this case, any generic laptop running Linux would be superior to us using a Chromebook.
@aral @Lea Sure at two or three times the price and with inferior UX. A Chromebook can connect to a private space and the best ones are made by Samsung.
@davidstodolsky @Lea Indeed. And products made with child labour are cheaper still. Is our main criteria cost or our ethics?
