the number of people saying that ben did something stupid in d2 to get himself captured make me wanna throw something
he fucked up and acknowledged he fucked up and went there to try and apologize and get mal to go back home and away from the shitty situation they were trying to get her out of in the first movie

yes okay he shouldn't have walked off after mal told him to leave
but like
after one attempt at arguing, he dropped it and respected her wish to stay on the isle and left
him getting grabbed on his way back to the car kind of isn't his fault
should he have gone alone? no. but, like, that's his only real ~stupid~ thing.
