The longest-named Unicode character is
๏ฏน
"ARABIC LIGATURE UIGHUR KIRGHIZ YEH WITH HAMZA ABOVE WITH ALEF MAKSURA ISOLATED FORM" (U+FBF9).
The shortest-named character is
๐Ÿ‚
"OX" (U+1F402)
The runners-up for longest are U+FBFB and U+FBFA, other forms of that Arabic character. The longest-named non-Arabic character is
๐Ÿ”‚
"CLOCKWISE RIGHTWARDS AND LEFTWARDS OPEN CIRCLE ARROWS WITH CIRCLED ONE OVERLAY" (U+1F502)
On the shorter end, there are too many 3-letter-name characters to list here, but OX is the only 2-letter-name.

@impiaaa

O_o

Bo?
Ra?
Pi?
Oz? (you didn't say PERSON name :P )
Li?

(most of that list is somewhat arguable but I have KNOWN people whose name was 'Bo', not it's-short-for-something "Bo" but 'Bo')

@sydneyfalk Read the thread please. I'm talking about Unicode character names.
(In terms of person names, I once knew someone with last name O. It screwed with a bunch of systems.)

@impiaaa

blah, I'm a doofus

carry on, my mistake :(

@sydneyfalk that's ok ๐Ÿ™‚ the "thread" indicator is really hard to notice

@impiaaa

the REALLY sad part is that my conscious mind leaped into the fray to respond to the perceived statement ("of human names, only one has two letters") and all it could come up with was "Bo"

that's pathetic, there's gotta be plenty of others that I can't think of

(but in fairness I'm on my first batch of caffeine for the day and JUST took my pills an hour ago (my sleep schedule's been all over the place, don't even ask))

@sydneyfalk here's some: Al, Ed, Hy, Ji, Jo, No, Po, Ro, Ti

@impiaaa

exactly

and I'm a WRITER

this shouldn't have been hard for me (I have a character in a work-in-progress CALLED Jo, FFS)

@sydneyfalk and as a writer, you should know that size of one's vocabulary is not indicative of one's writing skills. I looked all of these up in a dictionary (though, oddly, Jo was not in thereโ€”it was autocorrected from Ji).

@impiaaa

> as a writer, you should know that size of one's vocabulary is not indicative of one's writing skills

yeah, but I should also know that SOME people clearly DID like my work (it's not like everybody bought it and returned/refunded it), etc. etc. and I still think they thought it sucks

it's one of those irrational insecurities, rationally I know better

just one of those things. ^_^

@sydneyfalk yeah, that kind of feeling's got to stink. I only hope I can motivate you with these modest words ๐Ÿ™‚
@sydneyfalk oh, and I also know a Wu, which also wasn't in there. I need to find a better dictionary.
