According to Digicoinomist, #Bitcoin consumes currently 14.43 TWh of #energy annually (with mining cost of $721,420,025) compared to #VISA’s 0.54 TWh, making VISA 26,505 times more energy efficient per transaction.

This is not an inherent #cryptocurrency problem, as there are #proof_of_stake #cryptocurrencies like #BlackCoin which secure #blockchain with the scarce resource being money owned instead of energy expended. Knowledge about them still doesn’t seem to be widespread.
