Hey #ZXSpectrum Yolk Folks who were into #Codemasters budget games especially the #Dizzy series.

Does anyone remember Treasure Island Dizzy (128k) saying one of two different things when it loaded?

The well known one is "Welcome to Treasure Island Dizzy".
I am sure it sometimes said "Okay, its loaded".

I have 2 guesses of how this was achieved

1) both samples loaded with the game chose which one to play

or

2) my preferred more sneaky guess a different version on each side of the tape.

@raymierussell One would assume 2), if only for memory reasons.

@hedders

Yes make sense, the only downside is it would complicate the cassette duplication process.

@raymierussell Yeah - although thinking about it, wouldn't tape duplication plants be used to putting different things on each side of a tape, assuming most of what they did was music tapes?

@hedders
Nice point.
In the later days some budget games put the same game for different machines of the same cassette but on different sides.

I am sure I had a couple of games that had the Speccy version one side and Amstrad on the other.

@hedders
The thing that clouds my memory about this specific thing is that although I had the cassette of TI Dizzy. I later got a +D 3.5" drive and snapshotted it to disk.
So I loaded the game on cassette many times at first and then used the snapshot after getting the drive.

I had a habit of turning the TV volume down while loading and only turning it back up when loaded.
So I do remember one day not turning the volume down during loading and when it finished it said "Okay, its loaded".

@raymierussell I think I've found the answer!

If you look at this video:

... you'll see it actually says both things - "OK, it's loaded" followed by "Welcome to Treasure Island Dizzy".

I wonder if your habit of turning the volume down while the game was loading meant you typically missed the first bit when loading from tape?

@hedders

Cheers, that solves one of the mysteries where I thought memory might be playing tricks.
