The heatdome sits over Europe, and I have to move flats this week. Grateful for friends who just show up and carry heavy things, despite the heat. Worried about the next few days and having to explain the concept of wet bulb temperature over and over again.... I am so so grateful, and also don't want anyone to be unwell because of me.

Also, grieving for the world we could have had, if we had acted more decisively even 15 years ago.

It's quickly become a summer routine, getting up before sunrise to air the flat, cook whatever needs cooking for as many days as possible on the "cooler" days, work, then rest for the day until the sun hides behind the treeline. Wait if it cools down enough for another evening airing, my current task, but it looks like it's not going to until around 4 am. Jealous of homeowners who can just install solar panels and batteries and have gardens to grow food and trees in.

The cat and I are enjoying a few moments of relative cool outside, but the relentless fireball is already starting to creep up behind the trees.

Thinking of midwinter and how happy I was to see the sun then.

@marthasterias I am in a house with a garden, but it's a Scandinavian house built to keep all heat inside because winters used to exist. We are also doing the nighttime airing, and turning down the ventilation in daytime and running it after sundown. This sucks. (And we haven't even gotten the full force of it yet, just that the house loves heat).
@marthasterias @pvonhellermannn I feel this, it feels like a list of essential only chores all centered around managing heat, with no capacity for any other tasks.
