Believe me, you need this bit of space ASMR today:

Background info:

You are looking at the largest and most detailed image ever made of our Milky Way galaxyโ€™s centre in visible light.

Scientifically, the data will be used for microlensing surveys to find exoplanets - and is now fully publicly available. As are the pretty images if you want them as a desktop backgrounds, of course!

@vicgrinberg O wow, getting a bit emotional seeing the beauty of the stars and galaxy :-)
@leonieke I literally had my whole back tingling watching it for the first time earlier today.
@vicgrinberg I can imagine! I'm just a civilian who enjoys seeing beautiful things, but for you there's a new spread of possibilities in research, correct?
@leonieke yes and no since this is not my research area ๐Ÿ˜… so in that regard I'm just a civilian, too.
ESASky 7.9.0

ESASky is an application that allows you to visualise and download public astronomical data from space-based missions.

@vicgrinberg

What I find incredible about the galaxy photos and videos is not that they can look so far and zoom in.

I understand that technology, lenses, dishes and recording, has evolved to such incredible resolutions.

What I find incredible is that their starting point is only a tiny little spot of what we see of the stars.

That you can point the dishes to any other spot, and see just as much as we see in this video.

All those stars. Most with planets.

@vicgrinberg Looks cool! And also cool, like temperaturewise.
Cool is very much appreciated these days.
@vicgrinberg Thank you for the hint.
Got goosebumps when watching this.
the subtitle was mentioning โ€ž8700 lightyears awayโ€œ, and someone next to here was complaining about his neighbor ๐Ÿ˜Œ
