The reason I use scare quotes for the “left” is exactly because people like them are refered to as “radical leftists” in the US and they’re, arguably, self described liberal socialists.

Liberalism, especially American liberalism/neoliberalism is a right wing ideology. Pulling in some basic socialist ideas doesn’t change that.
