Had to shell out $40 for our Stand Up Paddle board permits. Absolutely ridiculous.
$20 a permit or $200 fine for paddling without one.
Also have to carry a life jacket (that's okay) AND a whistle. Each of these are a separate fine if missing.
If you live in Oregon and also think this is ridiculous, please sign the https://www.letuspaddle.com/ petition to repeal House Bill HB2982.

@tsherrygeo so, actually just got out of the county Dems meeting where we voted against supporting this

while everyone supports keeping public waterways free to access

without a replacement revenue stream, we would end up LOSING a lot of access locally -- boat ramps and disabled paddler access especially

also invasive species management goes away, and zebra and quagga mussels are a serious problem

we need to get rid of pay-to-play and replace with genuine revenue for Parks and Marine Board

@sarae That's disappointing. I get that those programs are important, but charging people to paddle board their local public water ways is bad politics.

@tsherrygeo I agree completely, which is why I look forward to seeing people who want to see an end to "pay to play" on public land advocating for revenue models that fund the recreational infrastructure we urgently need in an equitable way

yanking today's recreational funding with no replacement strategy, as this proposal would do, will close off public land, eliminate invasive species screening, and mean LESS access to public land and waters for Oregon citizens and visitors
