Bad Scraps NOT for Compost:
Meats, fish, bones, and dairy products (pest control and anaerobic decomp management)
Store-bought flowers and houseplants (pesticides and fertilizers)
Processed, bleached paper products (harmful chemicals)
Anything non-organic such as plastics, rubber, the likes.
We know that you know. But when the flowers, twist ties, stickers, rubber bands, and rubber gloves happen to find their way in there, we gotta go diving for it (ick). So we appreciate the extra effort to keep em out.
What's the deal with bread? We don't love it. A little simple, flour based bread is OK. A sandwich crust, a half eaten pita pocket, a stale end piece provides lovely nitrogen for our compost. But a loaf of bread or buttery, sweet pastries throw off the aerobic process and can attract pests.
So as a general rule, try to keep bread out.
