Across the country, we are facing a wave of planning applications for huge new ‘hyperscale’ data centres

If the 24 proposals announced so far are all approved, they'll need up to 6,000 megawatts of electricity - more than 1.5 times Scotland's current peak demand.

They're massive industrial developments that would put pressure on our electricity grid, drive up energy costs, and crowd out other essential projects.

@bobjmsn please stop with the annoying captchas. They're always in American English and very annoying.
@LuluHelle I agree, but I don`t create the captchas, they are in the link, sorry.
@bobjmsn they're often so unclear and frustrating that it makes me think, heck it.
@LuluHelle I am with you there. If it is something that I do not feel strongly about I will often give up at that point. I also hate the infiltration of American English; I find it very irritating.
@bobjmsn I don't get why governments are so keen to get these data centres on their patch. They'll generate very few jobs, almost no tax, no attraction of wealthy people to the area, and no benefit or economic activity to other local businesses. Why?
@bobjmsn Does anyone ask what data will be on these??
