Took a risk and ordered an extremely limited quantity of something special for our #EMFCamp Night Market stall. Hoping to provide things to sell which people will love while not ending up losing money on the cost of producing the items if we don't sell it all.
Now deliberating whether to risk even more money to bring ready to use Geiger Counters as a product to the night market, or just stick with my own project as a demo. Would have to sell them all at £45 each to be worthwhile. Who would be interested at this price point? Would have graphing on a screen with logging. Micropython firmware you can customise to your hearts desire. Powered by a USB lead (no internal battery). #EMFCamp #emf2026
First completed draft of the case design for the #GeigerCounter is done, and going on the printer to check for fit (and printability).
Case printed nicely, with all the complex grill details and overhangs. It looks like the threaded insert holes pierce the top face at the front which I only just noticed in the photo. But the fit of the two halves with the shallow line is really nice, so very pleased.
Case is coming together nicely. Maybe I shouldn’t have prototyped it in red though. Getting some pretty lively readings! #GeigerCounter
First fully assembled and fully operational unit. I have a list of improvements to make to the case, but everything fits inside and power is routed between the boards. This is reading real data now. #GeigerCounter
@drfootleg they look great.
@skyfire747 Let's hope the boards fit. I didn't have time to check before I went out the door this morning. Just grabbed these off the printer which I left running overnight and took a couple of quick photos.
@skyfire747 So the PCB's fit in the space in the case, but I somehow modelled the components on the main board out of position, so things on one side didn't line up with the holes in the case. Then there is the thing I overlooked, which is that components hang over the edge of both sides of the board. So while the board fits in the space, there is no way to get it into that space. So I've modelled a groove in the inside face to allow it to be inserted into position. Iteration 2 is now printing.
@drfootleg good luck with v2. 🙏
