Greater Anglia has installed new anti-trespass measures at stations across #Cambridgeshire, #Essex, #Hertfordshire, Norfolk and Suffolk to help prevent people accessing the #railway and reduce the risk of accidents.
The measures include extra fencing, gates and rubber surface deterrents known as witches’ hats, which are designed to stop people reaching the tracks. Work began in January 2026 and was completed in late spring at stations including #Chelmsford, Thetford, Stowmarket and Wymondham.
The project coincides with Rail Safety Week. Greater Anglia’s Safety Director Matt Wakefield said the railway is not a playground and urged anyone who sees trespassers to contact rail staff or call 999/112 in an emergency.
The operator also works with Samaritans, training staff to support vulnerable people and help keep them safe. The measures form part of wider efforts with GBR Anglia partners to improve railway safety.
