Commodore is back with a de-Googled feature phone for the anti-doomscrolling crowd (running SailfishOS) - feddit.org

Lemmy

I’m happy to see this trend. I’m not trying to wean myself off a smartphone, because I never used my phone that way. I just don’t want to pay for, and be spied on by a bunch of crap I don’t use.

Commodore’s patent-pending technology blocks social media platforms and internet browsers at the system level.

Do people have zero self control

*gestures to everything*
Yes. Visit reddit’s /r/dumbphones for repeated absurd requests on a phone that can support all of the apps necessary, but automagically prevents one from installing social media apps or browsing the web.
People have self-control, but big tech has manipulative UI.
So tired of big tech’s UI forcing me to install browsers. My android phone has 18 of them and I’m installing more every day.

Do people have zero self control

yes, as demonstrated by your comment.

Cautiously optimistic about this one. $500 for a niche Linux phone that works as a phone is fair.

And color LED notifications! Why did we ever get rid of those?

Would be cool to know what components are user serviceable. I really dig the aesthetics of this phone (except the founders edition, just like the ultimate 64 founders edition, reeks of trump.)
Much as I dislike social media, blocking me from installing whatever the hell I want on my device sounds… lame?
I would love something like that, if it tad a flip out keyboard. Why did everyone forget the majesty of the flip out keyboardw 😔
