Harish Narayanan@atpfm It has always been possible to authenticate sudo with Touch ID. It needed some finagling in the form of adding "auth sufficient pam_tid.so" to /etc/pam.d/sudo. This has been very convenient.
(This would work until every point release of macOS, and then need to be re-added after an upgrade reset the file.)
John Siracusa@harish I have done that in the past, but what we were talking about is when the macOS GUI wants admin access. The PAM changes never affected that, I believe.
