How many times will I see the Pokémon GO 'news' about location data being shared with Vantor even after Niantic responded to it?

The company was sold to Scopely over a year and a half ago, the data has been owned by a Saudi company for that long, people agreed to share their data from the very start, and the damn AR feature that collected the specific data set isn't even in the game anymore.

Sigh. Even in the Fediverse, 'shocking' headlines seem to be more relevant than reading through articles and informing oneself.

I'm tired.

Kotaku summarized it quite well: https://kotaku.com/pokemon-go-niantic-spatial-drone-ai-map-training-gps-2000705669
Note the last sentence of the article.

@Radgryd Calling Vantor a "drone company" and not something like "the industry leader in satellite imagery who have 30 years of surveyed, spatially accurate, ground control points and the ability to take pictures of any Pokestop they want from multiple angles several times a day to build a fresh 3D model on demand" is all you need to know.
